The grain yield of TAM 302 is better than or equal to the best commercial hard red winter wheat varieties available (Table 1). TAM 302 has produced high grain yields in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, and Kansas. In irrigated trials at Bushland in 1999, TAM 302 out-yielded the check varieties by 9 bushels/acre. TAM 302 is a medium-to-late maturing variety, similar to 2137 and Ogallala (Table 2). TAM 302 has averaged 30 inches in height, similar to Jagger and Hickok (Table 2). The winter hardiness of TAM 302 is good, similar to 2137, Ogallala and TAM 202 (Table 2). TAM 302 has not been known to have problems with lodging or shattering. TAM 302 is resistant to soilborne mosaic virus and has adult-plant resistance to leaf rust (Table 3). TAM 302 tolerates barley yellow dwarf virus somewhat better than other wheat varieties (Table 3). TAM 302 has a good level of tolerance to acid soils. |
| TAM 302 provides good protection to leaf rust, powdery mildew, and yellow dwarf virus (Table 3). TAM 302 also protects well against soilborne mosaic virus, and the Great Plains biotype of Hessian fly. | |
|
TAM 302 has been shown to have good hard red winter wheat quality, similar to TAM W-101. The kernels of TAM 302 have always been classified as being “hard” by both the single kernel wheat classification system, and near-infrared methods. | |
