Coal Ash study (FCS)
Funding source:

Objectives:
Evaluate the use of flue gas desulfurization residue (FGDR) as an amendment for acid soils. Determine the effect of FGDR on soil chemistry and crop yields.
Methodology:
Field trials were established to evaluate the effect of fresh or aged flue gas desulfurization residue (FGDR) on soil chemistry (esp. pH) and the yield of soybeans followed by wheat, or cereal rye followed by corn. FGD residues were compared to typical agricultural lime and non-amended soil. Soil samples were collected at the start and end of the study and analyzed for pH and trace metals. Crop yields were measured and plant tissue was analyzed for trace metal content, including mercury.
